Siena Frequently Asked Questions

Siena Catholic College Overview and Transition

“A school that grows with your child”

What is Siena Catholic College?

In response to community feedback for more Catholic secondary options in this area, from January 2027 the two Catholic Primary schools Sacred Heart, Pymble and Our Lady of Perpetual Succour (OLPS), West Pymble, will amalgamate into a K-12 co-educational school, Siena Catholic College.  Years K-4 will be located at the current site of OLPS which is ideally suited for our younger students. Years 5-12 will be located at the current Sacred Heart site which can accommodate more students and is near transport solutions that are suited to more independent, older students.

As part of the Catholic Schools Broken Bay (CSBB) system of 45 schools currently educating 18 000 students, Siena Catholic College will deliver outstanding learning, pastoral care, co-curricular and faith development opportunities.

Our Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) team is progressing planning for the eventual provision of an Early Learning Centre at the OLPS site of Siena Catholic College. Our model includes both early learning services and before and after care.

What is the transition timeline?

From 2027-2032 Siena Catholic College will slowly grow, ultimately becoming the Years 5-12 campus of Siena Catholic College by 2032. From 2028 the Pymble campus will no longer enrol Kindergarten students – all Siena Catholic College Kindergarten students will be located at the West Pymble campus of Siena College.

Benefits for students and leadership opportunities

“Where young leaders emerge and humans flourish”

How will a K-12 College benefit my child?

Your child will benefit from being known by teachers from the start of their education journey all the way through.  There will be continuity in learning and relationships, reduced transition anxiety between primary and secondary school, and tailored academic, pastoral, co-curricular and faith programs across the full school journey. Opportunities will exist for participation in activities across age groups.

What are the advantages for the first Year 7 cohort in 2027?

By being part of this pioneering group, your child will:

  • Take on meaningful leadership responsibilities early and often
  • Contribute to decisions that shape the emerging secondary school experience
  • Inspire and mentor younger students
  • Have access to a range of sports, subjects and co-curricular offerings as part of a broader system of CSBB schools.

Will the primary school experience change in Year 5 and Year 6?

Daily school life will feel familiar and consistent and continue to be nurturing and student focused. Year 5 and 6 will follow the primary timetable and structure and have a core class.  It will be a Stage 3 Primary setting and separate to Year 7. The key difference is that students will have access to secondary learning spaces (Technology, Science and Visual Arts), and access to related resources and specialist teachers to enhance their learning experience. It will offer a primary school setting with the benefits of the middle years’ resources.

What are the opportunities for student leadership?

The growth of Siena Catholic College will create additional leadership opportunities for students with Year 4 leadership, Year 6 leadership roles, along with leadership for our secondary students in 2027 and extending throughout their time at the College.

Will there be a “Buddy Program”?

Yes, buddy programs will remain in the schools and across both campuses.

Facilities Development

“Inspired Learners, empowered Futures”

What changes will be made to the school site or facilities?

Stage 1 of the infrastructure enhancement will be delivered in 2026 with the installation of a modular building with bathrooms, specialty rooms, flexible learning spaces and general learning areas for the Year 7 (2027) and Year 8 (2028) students. During 2027 a second modular will be installed during Stage 2 to accommodate Years 9-12 students. Fabricated off site, modular builds take 6-8 weeks to install.  Installation will commence during Term 3 school holidays to minimize disruption.

What is the likely site for the new building (Phase 1) at Pymble in 2027?

Based on our initial planning and discussions the build is likely to be situated to replace the existing demountable learning spaces.

Will the oval be preserved?

Yes, we have listened to the community, and preservation of the oval is paramount. The historical significance of the Mercy block is important, and its grand presence will also be retained, along with the swimming pool and newer admin/staff/library block.

How big will the K-12 school be?

CSBB is modelling to have approximately 1200 students across the College. Our target size for Year 7 2027 and 2028 is 120 students per cohort, and two streams in K-6.

Transport and connecting the sites

“One school, one pathway, one community”

What transport options are there?

The Pymble campus is located 700m from the Pymble train station and several public buses run via the Pymble campus. There are also bus services running directly between the West Pymble and Pymble sites. Designated school buses may be made available to service student transport, especially as student numbers grow. Additionally, CSBB is investigating the feasibility of a private bus option for families.

How will the sites connect to form a united Siena Catholic College?

The creation of a united school community will include shared events and learning opportunities for students and staff at both sites, and shared news, community consultation and parent events across the sites.

Expert Staff and Academic Pathways

“Excellence in teaching – opportunity in every classroom”

Will there be new staff for secondary years?

Yes. Specialist teachers with qualifications and experience in secondary education will be employed to deliver high-quality learning across Years 7–12. Staff leadership roles will also expand to support the whole-school model.

What is the academic pathway for Years 11–12?

CSBB secondary school students achieve excellent learning outcomes.  We offer rigorous academic programmes of study leading to the HSC credential. Siena will also offer vocational pathways, catering to varied student interests, strengths, and post-school goals. In line with the expectations held by all CSBB schools, Siena Catholic College will maintain high expectations for all students’ learning.
