Sacred Heart - Road Safety Management Plan Procedures

Kiss and Drop & Drive Through Guidelines

To help ensure the safety of all students and maintain a smooth traffic flow, please follow these important procedures:

Display Your Family Name Clearly

  • Use A4 paper to display your family name on the front windscreen.

  • Attach it to the back of the passenger sun visor and lower the visor when entering the car park.

  • Signs lying flat on the dashboard cannot be seen by teachers.

Morning Drop-Off

  • Do not get out of your car. Help your child to independently:

    • Exit the vehicle

    • Load/unload their own bag

    • Fasten/unfasten their seatbelt

  • Students must exit using the safety door (closest to the footpath).

  • Leave the zone promptly after your child exits—do not wait for them to reach the gate.

Afternoon Pick-Up

  • Arrive from 2.50pm onwards. Arriving slightly later helps ease traffic congestion.

  • Drive Through runs until 3.20pm.

  • If traffic is backed up and you cannot enter the school:

    • Do not queue on Bobbin Head Road.

    • Continue driving, turn left onto the Pacific Highway, loop around, and rejoin the queue.

  • Inside the school, form two lanes of traffic progressing toward the pick-up area.

  • Turn left when exiting the school. No right-hand turn onto Bobbin Head Road during peak times.

  • Never call your child to the car outside of the designated loading zones.

Safety & Courtesy

  • Always remain patient and respectful.

  • Follow all staff instructions to ensure the safety and efficiency of our Kiss and Drop procedures.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students safe and our traffic flowing smoothly!

Park and Pick-Up Guidelines

To ensure the safety of all students and families, and to help reduce congestion around the school during pick-up times, please follow the guidelines below:

  • There is ample parking available for parents in the school car park off Richard Porter Way. This car park should only be accessed by parents from 2:45pm onwards.

  • Overflow parking is available on Bannockburn Road and Bobbin Head Road.

  • Parking in surrounding streets and walking a short distance is encouraged as a healthy option and helps to ease traffic congestion.

  • No parent or carer is to park or collect their child from the Bobbin Head Road staff car park/loop road.

  • Parents must adhere to all parking signs at all times. Do not park in spaces designated for disabled use, staff, the Parish, or Aquabliss customers unless entitled to do so.

  • Double parking is strictly prohibited as it creates an unsafe environment for children.

  • The parent car park is not to be used for ‘Kiss and Drop’ or for students walking out to be picked up.

  • Once parked, please enter the school grounds using the safest pedestrian routes. Do not walk through the car park or in front of vehicles. Use the designated footpaths and crossings.

  • Families crossing to the other side of Bobbin Head Road should use the pedestrian lights at the Pacific Highway intersection.

  • Please avoid crowding the staircase leading up to the playground, particularly when OOSHC staff are moving groups of students to After School Care.

  • Patience and courtesy are expected at all times to ensure a safe and respectful environment for everyone.

We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our school community safe.

Active Travel

  • Walking or riding to and from school is encouraged as a healthy option and a way to reduce traffic congestion.

  • Bike storage areas are available for student use.

  • Students riding bikes, scooters, or skateboards must wear a helmet and must dismount before entering the school grounds. These are not to be ridden within the school gates.

  • Students should always use the safest pedestrian routes when entering or moving through the school grounds. Please avoid walking through the car park or in front of vehicles.

  • Students walking home in the afternoon are encouraged to leave the school grounds promptly and walk directly home.

Bus Travel

  • Bus travel is a convenient and recommended option for students.

  • All students must use their Opal card to “tap on” and “tap off” for every journey. This data helps Transport for NSW understand usage patterns and allocate appropriate services for our school.

  • Teachers are on duty each afternoon to assist students with safely boarding their buses.

  • Safe and respectful behaviour is expected at all times on school buses. Inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated, as it may distract the driver and compromise the safety of all passengers.

We appreciate the support of families in following these guidelines to help keep our students safe and support sustainable travel options.
